Transformational Coaching

I have seen many people over the years who had desired to change themselves and they completely reinvented themselves. For example, "One of the leaders' goal was to move himself from a demanding and destroying boss to a kind and approachable one with building strong relationship with other leaders around him." That's a very difficult goal to set for yourself in the latter half of your life.

However, after the course of six months, a leader actually transformed himself into the kind and approachable boss with Transformational Coaching. Even a feedback from his peers confirmed that, he was altogether a different person. This kind of scenario could happen with the practice of transformational coaching.

It sounds like a complicated process but really, it is not. Here are the basic principles to reinvent yourself that can be used in Transformational Coaching:

Transformational Coaching

1. Teachable Moments:

It is not the case that people wake up one day and decide, "I will become a different person altogether." It takes a powerful and painful experience to motivate an individual to make such a big decision.
As a transformational coach, one needs to be alert of such major events in the clients and should help them to leverage for the personal transformation rather than only surviving them. The greatest challenge for a person is to contain the seeds of big opportunities for personal growth. If you feel that you are losing those seeds for personal growth, you have to engage your transformational coach so he would be aware of what you are going through.

2. Action Oriented Transformational Coaching:

Once, I met an individual who was looking to change himself in order to come alive emotionally after having muffled the feelings over the period of time and his Transformational Coach. The coach told me that he would have easily taken the approach of counseling, seeking to the roots of the problems and offering their healings. But rather, he stuck to the coaching approach by just following the practical lessons. Not to the surprise of more people, it actually worked.

The coach had built up new plans every week for a person to live happy in his regular routines and letting off some money every week rather than hoarding it. With the practice of those action as habits, a coach was able to bring about the changes in the mind of an individual who, in turn, was able to create the emotions.

Transformational coaching can work for you, especially if you are truly committed to becoming the best person or leader that you could ever be!

Life Coaching vs Therapy

As Life Coaching becomes a more popular method of navigating life's complex paths, there are a lot of questions about whether or not it is traditional therapy, how it may relate to therapy, or if they are interchangeable.

In therapy, the focus is on dealing with the past. Therapists lead their clients through the healing process, helping them develop coping skills that they can eventually use on their own, once they have achieved wholeness. A skilled therapist can help clients reach the source of their fears - the obstacles that typically prevent us from achieving our highest potential.

In Life Coaching, the focus is on the present and the future. Coaching clients may have already experienced therapy and will therefore expect the same type of experience. However, as a Co-Active Coach®, I work hand-in-hand with my clients as they lead the way. A skilled Life Coach helps clients manage their fears, minimizing them so that they can live a healthy life and achieve even higher goals. The Life Coach also helps clients uncover hidden passions, resulting in a more fulfilled life that is focused on values-based decisions. She holds her clients as creative, resourceful, and whole from the very beginning of the relationship.

Life Coaching vs Therapy

Traditional therapy and Life Coaching can complement each other. However, if a therapist is using coaching techniques, it is best if the client knows that a coaching technique is being applied. The client is empowered in a much more holistic way whenever coaching techniques are used to enhance the client's therapy experience.

As a Life Coach, I am trained to listen for cues and to use my training, intuition, curiosity, experience, and resources. With all these "tools," I guide my clients down the paths that they themselves choose. In most cases, my clients are not even aware of the paths that they have already unconsciously chosen. That's where my expertise as a Life Coach comes into play. We walk these paths together, discovering new dreams, goals, and opportunities. The result is a more fulfilled, balanced life for each of my clients, and, in many cases, a new direction toward a dream previously unrealized.
